Nommé « principal painter in Ordinary to Their Majesties », il peint le roi, la reine Henriette Marie, les enfants royaux et toute l’aristocratie anglaise. Son atelier produit des centaines de portraits où chaque détail – la dentelle d’un col, la soie d’une manche, la gravité d’un regard – construit une image de pouvoir et de raffinement.
